One day in Bruges

One day in Bruges

Visiting Bruges had always been on our bucket list, so making a stop there during our road trip through Belgium was an absolute highlight. Even though it was our very first time in the city, we knew we wanted to experience it our own way.

We were lucky enough to get one of those days where the morning mist gently floats over the canals, giving the city an almost mystical atmosphere. Instead of rushing to line up for the Belfry tower or squeezing onto the packed boat tours, we decided to give the day a much slower pace.

We made a mandatory mid-morning stop to seek refuge from the chill with a rich, hot chocolate at a cozy, hidden café near Minnewater Lake, the kind of place with steamed-up windows, mismatched chairs, and the quiet hum of locals starting their day. We spent the rest of the morning strolling between medieval facades, crossing stone bridges almost by chance, and simply sitting on any bench to read and watch time go by.

As the afternoon light began to soften and turn golden over the water, we found ourselves reluctant to leave. There's something about Bruges at that hour, the reflections on the canals, the stillness that makes you want to stay just a little longer.

Since it was only a one-day stop, we eventually had to get back on the road. But we left with that rare, quiet feeling of having truly been somewhere, not just passed through it.
